Fancy a ride through a setting like no other – a little bit of Colorado in Occitania? The Rougier de Camarès and its wine-red hills await you for a gravel ride bursting with colour and thrills

Your tyres will turn red as they roll along the tracks of the Camarès region! Alternating between tracks and roads, this loop plunges you straight into a shimmering landscape before taking you into the forest. The real challenge: a 16 per cent gradient (and a section where you’ll have to push your bike) to climb up to the Loubière plateau, a beautiful expanse that looks as though it was made especially for gravel riding!

Description

  1. Starting from Montlaur, the route takes you through the red earth and past the iconic Montagnettes, leading you to the Russian Orthodox Church after a lovely climb through the woods.
  2. The descent towards Sylvanes and its famous abbey follows a lovely track through the woods before you begin the climb up to the Plateau de la Loubière and the overlook above Montaigut Castle. It’s a steep climb but well worth the effort.
  3. After a lovely descent along the road past the castle, a final loop along the red earth tracks awaits you before you arrive back in Montlaur.
