Set against a wine-red landscape, make your way up to the Loubière plateau, a wall of sandstone and red clay overlooking the Rougier de Camarès to the south and the Sorgues valley to the north

This route features over 400 metres of elevation gain as it winds through the crimson-hued valleys of the Camarèsien region, taking you on a gradual ascent to the Loubière plateau before leading you on to the Croix del Pas, the landmark of this imposing landscape. A few relatively technical sections, due to the presence of scree, punctuate this magnificent hike.

Description

  1. From the village hall, head towards the D10 road in the direction of Sylvanès/Gissac. After 3 km, take the left-hand turn onto the D101 towards Montlaur.
  2. Continue for 500 metres and take the track on the right which climbs up to the Andabre gîte, then carry on to the village of Gissac (water point at the wash house).
  3. Turn left onto a small road towards the St Etienne farm (a former Cistercian farm, a remarkable building); pass Le Besc, where the road turns into a track.
  4. A long but smooth climb takes you up to the Loubière plateau (breathtaking views of the Rougier, the Merdelou and the Monts de Lacaune). Continue along a single track through an oak forest leading to the Croix del Pas.
  5. Turn left and descend via a technical single track (rocky sections, challenging sections) leading to the old Mas de Gaujoux farm.
  6. Continue down a fast descent through a pine forest. Pass the La Grange Haute farm.
  7. Join the D101, ride for 2.5 km before taking a track on the right – a single track that leads back to the village of Camarès and the starting point.
