On the route that follows the old railway line, enjoy a pleasant outing on foot, on a bike or on horseback in the wooded undulating setting of the Saint-Affrique frontal Causses. Relaxation guaranteed!

When a railway is turned into a green lane! The railway connecting Saint-Affrique to Saint-Jean d’Alcapiès was operational until the early 1990’s, and is nowadays used as a family green lane, accessible to all. Don’t wait to experience an amazing circuit peppered with viaducts, bridges and abutments settled in a landscape of valleys and forests!


Description

The Green Lane starts along the Boulevard towards the 12 étoiles gymnasium. Walk to your right around the gymnasium and carry on passing close to the Vailhauzy castle (private) up to Saint-Jean-d'Alcapiès. A total of 8 kilometre posts are set all along the route.

Recommandations

Box tree moths are active from May to October. During the caterpillar phase, they feed on the leaves of box trees. They crawl down trees and move on long silken threads, although these threads are annoying when hiking they do not pose any health risk

The Tourism Office is open all year round, the opening hours are:

·July and august:

From Monday to Saturday: 9h – 13h & 15h – 19h

Sunday: 9h – 13h

·From September to June:

From Tuesday to Saturday: 9h – 13h & 14h – 17h

Closed: Sundays, Mondays and bank holidays

From November to April, the office is also closed on Saturday afternoon.

Access and parking

From Millau (30 km drive) or from Albi (78 km drive), take the D999 road towards Saint-Affrique. Once in the town centre, head to the gymnasium and the swimming pool to find the carpark set at the starting point of the green lane
